  1. TAKING A TEST

  3. To Open A Test:
  4.  
  5. Option 1)    From the Finder, double click the icon of the test to  be taken. When  Spell Tutor opens you will be directly in the  testing screen.

  7. Option 2)    Launch the Spell Tutor program. From the opening  screen, choose the Take Test button or select "Take Test" from the FILE MENU. In the standard open  dialog box which appears, select the test to be taken.

NOTE: If the resource file which accompanies the chosen test and contains the recordings of the words is NOT in the same folder as the List file, you will see an Alert warning upon trying to open the test. You will be given a chance to show  Spell Tutor where the resource file is located. If it cannot be found, this list cannot be given.

  13. New to Version 1.1: Before the test window appears, a small dialog asks you whether you want the words in "original order" or "random order". Original order is the order in which they were entered. Random order will very with each practice. Missed words still work the same for either.

  33. At the top of the testing screen you will see 1) the  name of the test, 2) the total number of words on the test,  3) which number word is currently up.
  34. To hear the recording  of the current word, either click on the "Hear the Word"  button or press the <TAB> key. Type in your answer. Be careful   the word is case sensitive. Extra spaces at the end of the word are ignored in version 1.1. Click the "OK" button or press  <RETURN>. Your word will be placed either in the Correct Words  list or the Missed Words  list.

  36. Finishing and Reviewing:

After finishing the last word of the list, you will see a results screen that will tell you how many words you missed and your percentage score. If you missed any words, there will be a "Review" button visible. Clicking that button will take you back to the test window. This time the total words will equal only the total missed. Hear and spell each word like before. Click the "Review All" button to review the whole test. The results screen appears after each round. The "New List" button opens a new spelling test, and "Quit" returns to the opening screen.

  40. New to Version 1.1: While in the results screen, you may print the list of words by choosing "Print List" from the file menu. Doing so at this point will print a list with an  *  beside each missed word.

  42. Special Secret:  While in the review mode only, pressing the UP arrow key displays the correct answer in the edit field for 1 second.

  44. NOTE:    You can leave  Spell Tutor at any time by choosing "Quit" from the File Menu.
